The Cooking Station is the only way to cook food in the game. After crafting, place on a Foundation or Floor and use a food item by pressing 'E' (default key binding) on the Cooking Station. The food item will then begin to cook at different amounts of time depending on the food item. See table below.
Once the fire subsides you will be able to pick up the cooked versions of the food items. Each item restores different amounts of hunger and thirst.
